On music

I really love listening to music. Many kinds of music.

Music takes off the stress and anxiety of life and lets me give into the dream realm. Especially shoegaze and dream pop, both of which give me the feeling I am floating in an abyss really far away, somewhere up high probably. Not sure.

For me music is inseparably connected with dreams (and nightmares, sometimes), but also feelings of course. What I feel and vibe with at the moment mostly decides the artist and song I will listen to at that time, but the dreams I wish to have also do. This has been so for as long as I can remember. I won't listen to something that doesn't check either of these marks at the moment.

A lot of noise is a break in this rhythm, because noise does not have an inherent harmony. However, noise combined with other musical instruments often gains the ability to possess rhythm, at least for me. Still, noise does not make me feel any specific way, and allows for a lot of alterations other types of music would not let me have. That is why I really like noise in my music, electronoise especially.

Listening to music takes a lot of my time in life, rightfully. While I like having a more silent surrounding, complete silence is annoying and music allows me to fill it the way I like it. It is normally hard for me to concentrate even in absolute silence, but with music it usually helps me function normally.

I have a very weird taste in music, and usually it is some combination of noisy lo-fi vibes, but sometimes somewhere I find myself listening to weird(?) offshoots of rock and punk. I don't like listening to mainstream music, and sometimes it happens that I stumble upon niche artists that I then really enjoy. Ultimately, it has always been a combination of tracks that I simply currently vibe with.

I also always used to (and still do) listen to music while going to sleep or sleeping. My last.fm profile may not make it seem like so, but I used to sleep with music a lot. It always helps me fall asleep, especially when I feel sleepless. Any dreamy kind of music is perfect for this, with preferably slow pace and soothing vocals (so like 70% of what I listen to, I guess?).

When it comes to making music, I've dreamed of playing on an instrument since... no idea how long. It's been some time and I still haven't, wrongly so, as I should've started ages ago. There are many instruments I've loved over the years, e.g. bass and electric guitars, but also drums and whatnot. Sadly I did not get to ever play with them yet.

But that doesn't matter for now. I am happy I get to write about something I like talking about. And my music taste changed a lot in the past years time, yet I still mostly do stay with rock in many and most cases. Well, and many other genres and subgenres, but the general idea stays the same.
